A well-made cocktail is every bit as complex and food-friendly as wine or beer. Add a splash of tonic water and a citrus wedge and soak in the sun. Gin\u2019s bright personality is a perfect partner for goat cheese, especially fresh versions. The lactic tang of a young ch\u00e8vre keeps the pairing breezy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blue Ledge Farm\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/culturecheesemag.com\/cheese-library\/Crottina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crottina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Vermont has a hint of saltiness that\u2019s just enough to smooth out the cocktail\u2019s dryness a bit. Make sure to use a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plymouth-style gin<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which tends to be a little bit sweeter and earthier than its London Dry-style counterparts. To be clear, I am <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">talking about frozen daiquiris\u2014those kitschy drinks are way too sweet and completely overpower a cheese. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go with the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">classic Cuban concoction<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The simple combination of aged rum, citrus juice, and sweetener can be served over ice, or shaken and poured straight up into a cocktail glass. Aged rums have more sweetness and body than their unaged counterparts. Their flavors are far more intriguing, often showing vanilla, spices, and even smoke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The balance of sweet and sour can be sublime for cutting through a buttery, rich, and salty triple cream cheese. Think <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/culturecheesemag.com\/cheese-library\/Brillat-Savarin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brillat-Savarin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from France or Nettle Meadow Farm\u2019s opulent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/culturecheesemag.com\/cheese-library\/Kunik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kunik<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Manchego with Margaritas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Years ago I lived in Mexico for a spell, mostly to eat amazing street food and drink a lot. While there, an elderly gentleman showed me his way to make a margarita and I\u2019ve never looked back. It\u2019s hands-down the tastiest, most refreshing summer sipper I know. That night he served it with &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/culturecheesemag.com\/cheese-library\/Manchego\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manchego<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This pairing is all about contrast. The cocktail\u2019s tartness and the soft vegetal tones from the tequila are offset by the cheese\u2019s saltiness. Manchego also has a subtle bite and lingering finish, which keeps it from disappearing in the drink\u2019s fresh acidity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to try <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Se\u00f1or\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Margarita, here\u2019s how it\u2019s made. The secret to this recipe is in the ratios of the three ingredients. It\u2019s 2 parts tequila, 1 part agave nectar, and the fresh juice of \u00bd a lime. Combine, shake, and serve over ice. That\u2019s it. No orange cura<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ao or triple sec. Salt the rim if you like. I even top it with a splash of sparkling water to add a little effervescence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. Pyrenees Brebis with a Vodka Martini<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to this classic cocktail, simplicity is best. The hallmark of a well-made martini is a clean, uncomplicated flavor. Dating back to the 19th century, the martini recipe originally called for gin and vermouth. But around the 1950\u2019s, vodka became an option to replace gin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pyrenees Brebis cheeses have a gloriously milky-sweet flavor with hints of brown butter and nuts. That richness of flavor and fuller-bodied mouthfeel provide a great canvas for the nuances of a well-crafted martini. Vermouth is complex and layered, with notes of herbs and spices that will let the earthy tones of the cheese shine. There are combinations with plenty of heft and weight, great for an after-dinner dessert alternative or a stand-alone treat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/culturecheesemag.com\/cheese-library\/Gouda-Beemster-XO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gouda<\/a>-style cheeses are&nbsp;oh-so-satisfying: they often have delicious flavors of butterscotch and honey with hints of nuts and vanilla, a hefty, dense texture, and lingering finish. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bourbon has a marvelously rich flavor that pairs seamlessly with cheeses that have those caramelized flavors, especially when the bourbon is barrel-aged. Both the booze and the cheese share warm flavors of vanilla and subtle tones of spice. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/recipe-the-noreaster-cocktail-the-10-minute-happy-hour-200385\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nor\u2019Easter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a cocktail that only adds to the caramelly party.
